PNG to SVG converter with real vector paths

Drop in a PNG and VKTR traces it into an SVG made of vector paths, in full colour or black and white, with smooth curves you can recolour, resize and edit. The SVG has no background of its own, and the conversion runs in your browser, so your PNG is not uploaded.

01 / How it works

How to convert PNG to SVG in three steps

  1. 01

    Open your PNG

Drop, choose or paste a PNG, JPG, WebP or HEIC up to 20 MB into the Studio. A large, sharp original converts better than a small or compressed copy.

  2. 02

    Check the colours and edges

VKTR picks the number of colours for you. Change it, switch to black and white, or turn background removal on or off, then recolour, group or delete shapes.

  3. 03

    Download the SVG

Set the width in millimetres and download. The same result also downloads as PDF, EPS or DXF.

02 / What you get

What is in the SVG file

  • Full colour or black and white

Auto chooses between 2 and 32 flat colours, or set the number yourself; smooth colour ramps can become gradient fills. Black and white traces with an automatic or manual threshold.

  • Transparent background

The SVG has no background shape. A white or off-white page behind the artwork is removed automatically, and background removal can be turned on or off.

  • Paths only, no hidden image

Every shape is a path with smooth bezier curves, grouped by colour. The SVG never embeds a copy of your PNG.

  • Ready for your next tool

Open the SVG in Illustrator, Inkscape or Figma, upload it to Cricut Design Space, or use it on a website.

03 / Tips

For the cleanest result

  • Logos, icons and flat artwork

Clear edges and solid colours trace cleanly. A photo becomes stylised artwork rather than an exact copy.

  • The biggest original you have

VKTR works at 1,500 to 2,400 pixels on the long edge, enlarging small images first. Detail a tiny PNG never had cannot come back.

  • Tidy up before you download

Delete stray shapes, recolour near-identical colours to one, and check lettering: traced text is made of shapes, not a font.

04 / Questions

PNG to SVG: questions and answers

How do I convert a PNG to SVG?

Open the PNG in VKTR Studio, check the colours and edges of the traced result, then set the width in millimetres and download the SVG. VKTR accepts PNG, JPG, WebP or HEIC up to 20 MB.

Is the PNG to SVG conversion free?

Converting, previewing and editing are free with no account. Each download uses one token, and every free account gets 1 token every 7 days.

Does the SVG keep the colours of my PNG?

Yes, in colour mode. VKTR reduces the image to flat colours (Auto chooses between 2 and 32) and can turn smooth colour ramps into gradient fills. You can also convert to black and white.

Will the SVG have a transparent background?

The SVG has no background shape of its own. If your PNG sits on a white or off-white page, VKTR removes it automatically; turn background removal on for other plain backgrounds. A designed background stays as its own shape.

Is the SVG the same as the original design file?

No converter can recreate the original file. You get vector shapes traced from the pixels, so compare them with your PNG, especially lettering and fine lines, before you use the file.

Can I use the SVG with Cricut?

Cricut Design Space imports SVG files, and VKTR's SVG keeps each colour as its own group of paths.
