Image to DXF converter for laser, CNC and CAD
VKTR traces a PNG, JPG, WebP or HEIC image into vector outlines and saves them as a DXF: closed polylines in millimetres, one layer per colour, at the width you choose. The conversion runs in your browser.

01 / How it works
How to convert an image to DXF in three steps
- 01
Open your image
Drop, choose or paste a PNG, JPG, WebP or HEIC up to 20 MB into the Studio. High-contrast artwork gives the cleanest outlines.
- 02
Trace the outlines you need
Switch to black and white for cut lines and adjust the threshold, or keep colours to get one layer each. Reduce nodes to simplify the paths.
- 03
Download the DXF
Set the finished width in millimetres and download the DXF.
02 / What you get
What is in the DXF file
Closed polylines
Every shape is a closed POLYLINE in an R12 DXF, the long-standing version CAD and CAM programs read. Curves are flattened into short segments within 0.05 mm.
Real size in millimetres
Units are millimetres and you set the width (1 to 5,000 mm) when you download, so the drawing comes in at the size you set.
One layer per colour
Each colour of the trace is its own layer (COLOUR_1, COLOUR_2 and so on), coloured with the nearest AutoCAD Color Index.
Outlines, not fills
A DXF carries no fills: outer edges and holes are separate outlines. Check how your cutting software treats nested shapes before you run a job.
03 / Tips
For the cleanest result
Black and white for cutting
A single-colour trace with a tuned threshold usually gives the cleanest cut lines. Line art, logos and silhouettes work best.
Fewer nodes, smoother cuts
The Reduce nodes tool simplifies paths, and a larger minimum shape size drops specks too small to cut.
Check before the machine does
Open the DXF in your CAD or laser software, confirm the size and layers, and run a test on scrap material.
04 / Questions
Image to DXF: questions and answers
Can I convert a JPG or PNG to DXF?
Yes. VKTR traces PNG, JPG, WebP or HEIC up to 20 MB into vector outlines and downloads them as a DXF.
Which DXF version does VKTR write?
R12 (AC1009), with units set to millimetres. Shapes are closed POLYLINE entities, one layer per colour.
DXF or SVG for laser cutting?
Both carry vector outlines. VKTR's DXF uses millimetres and closed polylines with no fills; its SVG keeps fills, colours and smooth curves. Use whichever your laser or CAM software asks for: many accept both.
Does the DXF keep my colours?
Each colour becomes its own layer, given the nearest AutoCAD Color Index. Gradients become a single average colour.
Is the image to DXF conversion free?
Converting, previewing and editing are free with no account. Each download uses one token, and every free account gets 1 token every 7 days.
